Archetypes And Chakras

Chakras on shell

According to Carl Jung, there are many archetypes, or models and examples that human beings fit into. These models can come from myths, and are a model for self awareness. According to Jung, in his book Archetypes of the Collective Unconscious, people fall into categories or "types" There is an unquestionable correlation between Archetypes and the Chakra system. One only has to research down through the history and writings of philosophers, psychologists and teachers to know that from the very first Sanskrit writings, personality traits and types, have a relationship to the human energy system.

There are seven main energy vortexes or chakras, and archetypes are a universal projection of psychological makeup. Courage, fear, strength, and love - name a few. Chakras, energy and archetypes help us acknowledge both our shadow self, and the overt persona that we show readily to others. It is in embracing both worlds, both sides of ourselves, that we become authentic, real, and whole.

A few examples are:

Root chakra - Mother is positive Victim is negative

Sacral - Emperor/Empress is positive Martyr is negative

Solar Plexus - Warrior is positive Servant is negative

Other examples of positive archetypes would include : the Heart as Lover - the Throat as Communicator, the Brow as Intuitive and the Crown - as Guru.

In doing internal work, a person can acknowledge, grow and heal. For some people who are "stuck", it is helpful to identify areas of blockage, depleted energy, and outgrown behavior patterns. Behold - this is the way we grow!
